Strawberry Tree at Curly Redwood Lodge

Here’s a small tree that was moderately thinned at the Curly Redwood Lodge in Crescent City, prior to hiking in Jedediah Smith redwoods.

The Strawberry Tree, or Arbutus unedo, is available as a landscaping plant in northern Oregon, too. It grows red  pink urn shaped flowers, followed by big red berry-like fruits, and the bark is colorful all year. This small tree is relatively pest-free and low maintenance. Is is also a broadleaf evergreen, holding foliage all year.
