The scene here shows a research team headed for a study grove in the heart of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. This kind of trek was made early morning and late afternoon daily for a couple of weeks. In the study grove, they measure trees, sap flow, moisture, number of species and more. Dr. Robert Van Pelt has the lead in the green. Behind are Prof. Steve Sillett, his wife Marie Antoinne, Russell a grad student of Humboldt State University, and a Japanese researcher and his student who came from Japan to join them. Approaching head-on, fallen logs are huge obstacles that may require short detours. But when fallen in the direction of travel, may become 200 foot bridges over fallen debris and plants.
