Just got a copy of a new book COAST REDWOOD “TREE OF DREAMS AND FORTUNE” by G. F. Beranek.
Probably the most photographically loaded book ever in my bookcase or office. The author, a previous Coast Redwood and Timber Faller turned author and photographer, wrote me that this book is virtually opposite of his other work HIGH CLIMBERS AND TIMBER FALLERS. Also conveying it may raise a few eyebrows how both books came from the same brain. My copy came straight from the author, but I see that Wesspur also carries some of Beranek’s books, including The Fundamentals of General Tree Work … http://www.wesspur.com/books/tree-climbing-books.html
Gerald (Jerry) shared the following comments in a recent message …
“The style and presentation of Coast Redwood is the opposite of High
Climbers. As the earlier work is purely about the glory times and the
industry’s shortsighted gains from resource exploitation. Coast Redwood
is about the much longer rewards that come from appreciating and
preserving our natural resource. So there’s a striking contrast between
the content of the two books … Kind of like Jekyll and
Hyde. Strangely, as they are, I think the two books actually compliment
each other.”
The author is basically an ex-Timber Faller (and photographer) turned author, photographer. He still does a little bit of recreational tree climbing too (legitimate private forest climbing).
