Counting Reds

Published by mdvaden on March 30, 2014

Met a group of four in the creek for which Prairie Creek redwoods is named after. They said they were “counting reds” or eggs  laid by Salmon. This man is one of the four.

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, like Redwood National Park and others in the area, has Salmon living in the rivers and streams. Various people like these, keep track of the fish, eggs and variables like water temperature, pools or logs that may affect fish habitat.

If you hike in the Coast Redwoods and see someone going upstream in waders or boots, this may be what they are working on.
