For the old growth redwood parks, a bit of advice I repeat most often is “do not sleep in” … especially if there is some sun forecast. Days with sun can be challenging for nice photos before noon arrives. But early in the morning, the light may be mellow for a while. If there is fog, early arrival may provide spectacular scenery. The image below was taken the first few minutes after sunrise. The fog, sunlight and rays will change by the minute. This scene was in Jedediah Smith Redwoods, September, about 7am in the morning. Sometimes fog returns in the evening prior to sunset, and uphill of Crescent City in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park along Hy. 101 is a good place to go for this kind of scenery.
