New Signs – 3,300 Square Meters Damage

So … I underestimated. Earlier this year, I estimated that a study plot of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park had at least 8,000 sq. ft. loss of native plants. In July 2016, Redwood National and State Parks posted the sign shown below, stating 3300 square meters of area was damaged. About 4 times greater than my estimate.

The sign was posted several locations in the park, referring to a “study plot”. Another white sign was placed in the park with without the state seal, referring to the “Grove of Titans”.  The signs were posted to test the waters with different informative approaches. The damage is clarified more at my page The Forest Weeps.

Late July, I stopped by a church near Medford, Oregon, to talk with the people who initially leaked the location of the grove. The end of the conversation ended on a fairly civil note because the damage is undeniable and done. There’s no turning back. So the discussion was more about the future. I want to see where they go now with their future priorities. Presently, they don’t want their their names public and want to stay hidden from the public eye. On the other hand, you know who I am and where I stand on this.

So here’s the sign. Click to enlarge. If anyone ever cares to contribute, Redwood National and State Parks is the place to contact about donations of any kind.
