The group below are students, teachers and adults, who were staying at the Howland Hill Outdoor School on the edge of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. The image shows them on Boy Scout Tree trail the first morning after their arrival the evening before. If you search online “National Park Service, Howland Hill Outdoor School” you can easily find information you need. There are plenty of details … you won’t want to ask me about specifics. The cost varies. If you go the curriculum route, fees are less. Otherwise the rental fees are more. But the cost difference is so small, you may be looking at a mere couple of dollars extra per person.

If you commit to using the facility, there will plenty of rules to abide by. The price of commitment gains you a lot of space from campgrounds and other people and their habits or activity. The outdoor school becomes your private camping / lodging area. Most educators  are accustomed to dealing with multiple details, schedules and policies, and will find the requirements and guide a routine matter of doing business.

The gate for the outdoor school is next to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park gate on the Crescent City side. You  approach on Howland Hill Rd. The outdoor school has cabins, a new lodge that holds just under 50 people, and a commercial grade kitchen. It is a cross between modern and primitive living, but well maintained.
