The memorial below was found in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, October 31st, 2007. It still remained at least 8 years later when I stopped to photograph something nearby. Searching the year and first name, I found a full name of Jesse Anderson, who must be the person this memorial was placed for. According to park rules, this type of memorial should not be placed in the park, but I never gave the location to the rangers considering the nature of it and because its out of sight.
I doubt ashes were scattered there, but I don't know for certain. But the park permit granting scattering of ashes won't allow placing markers or signs. That's partly why I wrote a new page recently, about print canvases as a keepsake to mark the location, but at home instead.
