Some may agree, others may disagree, but there&#8217;s actually truth in that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people probably think of scripture, God, Jesus, pastors or Christians when the word &#8220;church&#8221; is read or heard. And to be frank with you the church of biblical epistles is something I believe in. But did you know that &#8220;church&#8221; does not denote a group of God&#8217;s followers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The word can describe followers of scripture, but likewise gamblers, a gang of thieves, pot growers, garden clubs, and yes &#8211; even redwood hikers. But what does the bible or language really teach?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-background has-vivid-red-color has-very-light-gray-background-color\">Acts 19:32 &#8220;Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the <strong><em>assembly (Ekklesia)<\/em><\/strong> was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The word <strong>&#8220;assembly&#8221;<\/strong> is translated from the Greek word <strong><em>Ekklesia <\/em>(Koine or ancient Greek &#8220;\u1f10\u03ba\u03ba\u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03af\u03b1&#8221;) <\/strong>and is the same word translated as <strong>church<\/strong> in Acts, Romans and Corinthians. But in Acts 19:32 the Ekklesia or church was a <strong><em>rioting mob full of wrath and confusion<\/em><\/strong>. The common thread binding them was their Silversmith trade and fear about wealth and losing business. It was an out-of-control union meeting with shouting for hours. It sent an entire city of Ephesus into chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words an Ekklesia or church was (is) a group of people assembled  for a common purpose or interest. And with that understanding, people gathering in a redwood forest can become a church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personally, I don&#8217;t worship trees nor do I consider redwoods <strong>THE<\/strong> church. But I go there to enjoy nature and make effort to meet new people from other states or countries. I&#8217;ve gained a good number of new friends this way, I&#8217;m aware of a few people who go to these forest to avoid people. I&#8217;m the opposite and enjoy folks who are comfortable sharing their time and experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, if somebody says the redwoods or nature is where they go to church, then take it at face value. Whether we esteem another church higher is another matter.
