The average diameter at dbh, chest height, was <strong>24.80 ft.. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Redwood National and State Parks recently posted on Facebook that a\u00a0<strong>23.7 \u00a0ft.<\/strong> wide \u00a0Big Tree in Prairie Creek was the <strong>3rd<\/strong> widest known. The recent\u00a0discovery stretches that claim a tad bit more. \u00a0There are now at least\u00a010 Coast Redwoods wider than the Big Tree in Prairie Creek. No less than\u00a010 coast redwoods are \u00a0over 24 ft. diameter. The widest\u00a0\u00a0range up to\u00a027.4 ft. wide. Just within the last 2 years, the widest new discoveries included diameters of:<\/p>\n<p>1. 27.4 ft.<br \/>\n2. 27.2 ft.<br \/>\n3. 25.9 ft.<br \/>\n4. 25.1 ft.<br \/>\n5. 24.8 ft.<br \/>\n6. 24.80 ft.<\/p>\n<p>The image below is an older girth discovery, called Sir Isaac, in \u00a0Redwood National and State Parks. We decided not to post an image of this particular April, 2014\u00a0discovery.
