Coral Bark Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Sango-kaku’ or Coral Bark Japanese Maple, provides a nice red, rose or salmon color bark on smaller stems during the winter, and some in other seasons too.

Most I see, tend to have narrow “V” shape unions where stems merge. These can be weak points where the tree or branches split apart. Several branches each year should be pruned off to reduce the number of weak unions. With care, expect these specimens to reach at least 20 feet high x 15 feet wide with potential for more growth.
