Another World’s Tallest Redwood Still Possible !!

The past few years, hopes for an even taller tree than Hyperion fizzled away. One reason being that redwood parks had been scanned using planes carrying LiDAR equipment, and word got around that the data located  all the remaining super tall coast redwoods. Not taller than Hyperion at just under 380 ft.,  … but some as tall as Orion, the 5th tallest tree in the world, in Redwood National Park.

Lately, word is circulating the tree enthusiast circles, that the LiDAR data gathering work was not done over the entirety of the old growth redwood parks, including a sizable portion of Redwood National Park, which already has the world’s 2 tallest known trees, and 5 of the world’s 10 tallest known trees.

This means there is still undiscovered old growth redwood forest, and possibly another world’s tallest tree. The photo below is a 2009 shot of Hyperion, in Redwood National Park, standing just shy of 380 ft. tall.
