Humboldt Redwoods State Park

For a number of years, I greatly favored Prairie Creek and Jedediah Smith redwoods parks over Humboldt. But over time, Humboldt Redwoods State Park began to grow on me. Although there is variation within the park, overall it’s more open feeling in the understory, and may possibly offer more redwood trunk photos unobstructed by understory plants. It’s not necessarily better … but different … and in that regard, just as good. There are so many top 100 height redwoods in the park, that if you took a long hike, odds are you spotted at least one of them back in some stand of trunks (not Stratosphere Giant though, it’s not visible from any trail). The photo below was taken in winter.
